Obsidian Entertainment Expresses Confidence in ‘Avowed’ Ahead of Packed February 2025
Amidst a competitive February 2025 launch window featuring heavyweight titles, Obsidian Entertainment, the developer of the highly anticipated RPG Avowed, remains optimistic about the game’s ability to shine. Here’s why the studio believes it can stand tall among a crowded release schedule.
February 2025: A Packed Release Month
Originally slated for release earlier, Avowed was delayed to February 2025, a period now crowded with major titles such as Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Monster Hunter Wilds. Despite the competition, Obsidian Entertainment appears unfazed.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Avowed’s game director Carrie Patel addressed the inevitable industry overlap common with major game releases. According to Patel, Obsidian is not concerned about going head-to-head with other blockbusters, as “there’s never going to be a time where absolutely nothing is coming out.”
“We’re very confident that Avowed is going to stand on its own.
I’m personally excited about a lot of the games launching that month, but I think we offer a very distinct experience from the others.”
Additional Time for Polishing the Game
The decision to delay Avowed also provided an opportunity to enhance the game’s quality. Patel explained that the additional time allows the team to work on bug fixes and fine-tuning, ensuring an optimized experience upon release.
“[The delay] has just given us more time as a team to fix bugs and do those final tuning passes,” Patel noted, signaling that the delay serves to refine the game further for the benefit of players.
Available on Xbox Game Pass
One factor that plays to Avowed’s advantage is its availability on Xbox Game Pass starting on its official release date, February 18, 2025. Game Pass gives the title a significant edge by opening it to a vast audience of subscribers, potentially helping it attract players even among the stiff competition.
As an exclusive to Xbox platforms and PC, Avowed hopes to become a standout experience for gamers worldwide, solidifying itself as a core pillar of Obsidian Entertainment’s RPG legacy.
